A Very Solar Summer

This summer, I will be visiting Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico as well as the Nevada Solar One installation in Boulder City, Nevada.

My goal, as part of my Lilly Endowment Grant for Teacher Creativity, is to learn about solar power generation and related processes.  Of specific interest to me is thermal storage; the idea embodies capturing solar energy, converting it to thermal energy, and then using that thermal energy later when electricity demands increase.  All of my experiences will culminate in the generation of content lessons and activities geared toward high school level chemistry courses and will be posted on curriki, as well as disseminated locally to area high schools through a series of workshops that I will conduct.  All in all, I am very excited about the grant and the possibilities that it has opened up for me to grow as a researcher and educator.  Stay tuned for further posts this summer!
